The Spiritual Path vs The Material Path
There is no difference. All seek God.
To the ego, those on the spiritual path are meek and ineffective. They are cowardly because they retreat from the world. To the ego, the material pursuit is separate from the spiritual one. The spiritual path is for those that want peace. The material path is for those that want the world.
But this is a grave misunderstanding. The spiritual pursuit is no different from the material one. It is in fact just another ambition, not unlike the desire to become a billionaire. The only difference is that it has a much higher aim. After all, how much can one acquire in this world?
One may climb the corporate ladder and become a great executive, but that will not be enough. One may become a millionaire and be satisfied for a short time, but the hunger inevitably returns. The millionaire then strives to become a billionaire. And the billionaire then strives for more as well. More wealth. More recognition. More power.
Even if one conquered the entire planet and had all of its abundance and wealth at their disposal, it would not be enough. Even if one had the love and respect of every individual on the planet, it would not be enough. After all, it is but one tiny planet in an infinite cosmos. The ruler would then turn their head up to the stars and dream of interstellar conquest. The hunger is never satiated.
What do those on the material path hunger for? It is not different from those on the spiritual path. They all seek the same thing.
And that is nothing short of Everything. The entire cosmos. Totality.
Everyone is seeking God, though they may not be aware it. Though they seek in ignorance. But if they were aware, perhaps they wouldn’t settle for food scraps and crumbs. Perhaps they wouldn’t take the slow and painful path acquiring petty things.
If they were aware, perhaps they might realize that the path to greatest of all riches is found by turning inwards.
One can only touch infinity from within.
